EnviroScent Case Studies
|
- According to the industry
leading Smell and Taste Treatment and Research Foundation of Chicago,
volunteers performed puzzle-solving tasks 17% faster when exposed to
a floral scent. |
| |
|
- In similar research, The
Good Housekeeping Institute found that proof-readers do much better when
peppermint or lavender scents are piped into the atmosphere. |
| |
|
- A Japanese company
discovered that lavender and jasmine soothed data entry operators, while
lemon increased production by up to 54%. |
| |
|
- A study by Dr. Alan
Hirsch, Smell & Taste Research Foundation, Chicago, researched the effects
of odors on product perception: One of the tests consisted of Nike sneakers
in two different rooms, one with unscented air, the other scented with a
mixed floral smell…84% of people in the study said they were more
likely to buy the shoes, or liked them more in the scented room and
many said they would pay about $10 more for the product in the scented
environment! |
| |
|
- In a Las Vegas casino,
the Research Foundation infused a pleasant scent into an area containing
slot machines. It then compared the amount of money played in the slots over
several weekends with the amounts played during times with no added scent.
Total revenues during the scented weekends were 45.11% higher! |

|
- A well known night club
in London experimented with a coconut scent in the atmosphere and found that
their sales of the drink
Malibu more than doubled. |
| |
|
- A Swiss clinic scents
their consulting room to “help” stressed out executives calm down, so they
can take on the ever demanding business world. |
| |
|
- Dr. Luca Turin, a
biophysicist at the University College London explains: “We don’t smell with
our noses, we smell with our brains so we shouldn’t be surprised that smells
have a direct effect on our moods.” |
| |
|
- Dr. Susan Shiffman, a
professor of psychology at
Duke
University
Medical
School
in North Carolina has been using chocolate and apricot aromas to help reduce
depression in her patients and researchers in the
UK are looking into the use of smell to help Alzheimer’s
patients. |
